We are a family run business located in the center of the Golden Circle where we have many of Iceland’s most precious attractions around us, such as Geysir hot spring, Gullfoss waterfall, Þingvellir national park and Skálholt an episcopal and one of Iceland’s historical places for hundreds of years.
We offer two types of accommodation, Blue Grove Guesthouse (Fagrilundur) and Blue View Cabins. Just “next door” to the guesthouse we have a great restaurant, Mika, famous for their great pizza, lobster salad and hand made chocolates. Also next door we have mini-market Bjarnabúð, a self service gas station, a public swimming pool with hot tubs. The guest house is next to Friðheimar – a famous greenhouse farm and a restaurant that mainly grows tomatoes and offers a wonderful lunch (soup / pasta / tortillas) which you enjoy inside the greenhouse.
Please note that OUR Reykholt is in the South of Iceland on the Golden Circle route (there is another Reykholt in the West of Iceland, in Borgarfjörður).
Blue Grove Guesthouse is a small log house located in the center of Reykholt Village. Many of our guests there like the cozy atmosphere in between trees. This house seems to have a good spirit.
Blue View Cabins are located on top of a hill about 5 minutes drive away from Reykholt, with great view and quiet surroundings. Many of our guests have said they feel that they are in the middle of nowhere but still close to many of Iceland’s most popular sites, like Gullfos, Geysir and Þingvellir.
We started building our first cabins in 2016 and since then we have finished 12 cabins, sizes 25-62 sqm. Below you can see how the place looked in the winter of 2016 when we started building the cabins during cold winter, staying in two rented containers for us to sleep in, eat and store tools 🙂
And we went on building cabins, the families of cousins Jóhann and Bjarni – see photos below: On the selfie far left you see Jóhann, his partents in law Gústi and Guðrún that have been doing everything from building to final touches of cabins, and our head carpenter Andrés that has been with us almost the whole time. On the second photo you see Jóhann’s daughter and now operations manager Ína, her mother and Jóhann’s wife, Ellý, and Bjarni’s wife Katrín. Then you see Ellý and Bjarni working on the turf. The fourth photo shows Bjarni, Katrín and their son Þorvarður “in isolation” at one of the cabins and on the far right are Inga, Katrín’s mother and Inga’s husband Hafsteinn. This trio also painted all artwork in our cabins besides painting the walls in some of them 🙂
This is the team that started our operations by building the cabins and adding Blue Grove Guesthouse Fagrilundur by purchase in 2017.
Then we needed help so we expanded our team with carefully selected members that we like to hook up with every now and then, photos below taken at such occasions and there we have Kolbrún and Kristín that you may expect to see in guesthouse mainly but also at cabins and Kolbrún’s daughter Þórdís was there too, Aneta and Stan at both places and also Tereza and Lukas. With us building were also Jón Helgi, Davíð and Jason and last but not least Egill, Kolbrún’s husband. Jóhann’s and Ellý’s daughters, Hugrún and María Rún, have also been helping at breakfast, reception and cleaning and Andrés’s carpenter son, Andrés, was his father’s help one summer building cabins. You see most of us below with spouses and some of us you will be in contact with during your booking process, stay and departure 🙂
We are all in this together and look forward having you stay with us in Iceland 🙂
